Healing Through Connection
Integrating Traditional Psychotherapy, Expressive Arts, and the Wisdom of Horses in beautiful Tucson, Arizona
Hi, I’m Marla G. Kuhn, LPC
Welcome to Blue Horse Medicine Ranch
Our ranch is a pocket oasis within the urban desert sprawl of Tucson. Home to the Blue Horse Healing Herd and the Blue Horse Studio and Gallery.
I’m a licensed independent therapist, artist, equestrian and full-time wisdom seeker. I have an abiding commitment to my own spiritual and emotional development as a human traveler.
I am deeply committed to sharing my healing journey by assisting others with theirs. I endeavor to do this through psychotherapy, the Wisdom of horses, and the freedom of creativity and intuition.
Individual Psychotherapy and Certified Therapy Supervision
Intuitive, creative, and experiential, my therapeutic approach is grounded in over two decades of evidence based and trauma focused experience. I am also an AZBBHS certified supervisor offering supportive supervision for those seeking independent licensure.

About Marla
The three strands of my braid
Marla is a seasoned psychotherapist, informed by over two decades of experience providing trauma informed psychotherapy from the office to the barn. With a devotion to helping reduce the suffering of her clients, Marla studied, and has become proficient in several evidence-based treatment modalities, including Dialectical Behavior therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based CBT, and Schema-Therapy.
Prior to getting her MA in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Equine Assisted Mental Health at Prescott College, Marla completed an MA in Art Education at the University of New Mexico and then spent over a dozen years as a professional art educator working in museums--including the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, ND and the Museums of New Mexico in Santa Fe, NM--and teaching art in the public schools of New Mexico and Arizona. Marla has been painting and creating her own art since the age of 13. A few years ago she was fortunate enough to set up her own studio and dedicate time to being a true working artist.
While completing her undergraduate degree at New Mexico State University, Marla studied equine sciences and psychology. In her senior year at NMSU Marla bought her first horse, an American Quarter Horse mare named Cindy Sure Skip. Since then, Marla has never been without a horse; She has owned and loved horses of many breeds and sizes (including Miniature horses). Throughout the last 40+ years Marla has competed with her horses in Barrel Racing, breed, and open shows and most recently, in USDF sanctioned Dressage competitions.
As a lifelong seeker of spiritual wisdom, Marla has also studied (and taught) Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation.
